Privacy policy

WhoFree is built to share as little as possible. There are no ads, no tracking, no analytics, and nothing is ever sold. This page explains exactly what the app stores, who can see it, and how to delete it.
The short version
- You sign up with just a name. No email, phone number or password.
- Only your crew and the friends you add can see your name and status.
- Delete your account in the app and everything goes, straight away.
What we store
- Your account
- A random account ID the app creates for you. It isn't linked to your email, phone number or Apple ID.
- Your name
- The name you type in. It can be a nickname.
- Your status
- Free, Maybe, Busy or Recharging, any Day / Night / Come join choice, and when you set it. It resets each morning, but your latest one is kept until you change it.
- Your time zone
- From your phone's settings, so the daily reset happens at 5am your time and alerts respect your quiet hours. We never collect your location.
- Crews and friends
- Which crew you're in, the crew's name and invite code, your friend code, and who you're friends with.
- Your settings
- Whether alerts, the morning nudge and Busy to friends are on.
- Notification token
- Only if you allow notifications: a code from Apple or Google that lets us send alerts to your phone. It's used for nothing else.
- Alert history
- A record of which alerts were sent and when, so nobody gets the same one twice, plus short-lived counters that stop the app being spammed.
- Crash reports
- If the app crashes, a report with your phone model, system version, app version and what went wrong. It doesn't include your name, statuses or who your mates are.
Your sound and theme choices are saved on your phone only and never leave it.
Who can see it
- Your crew sees your name and status.
- Friends you've added see your name and status. With Busy to friends on, anyone outside your crew sees you as Busy instead.
- Nobody else. There are no public profiles, no search, and no way to find people except by a code they've shared.
Services we use
These companies handle data for us, only to run the app:
- Supabase hosts the database and your account.
- Expo, together with Apple and Google, delivers notifications.
- Sentry receives crash reports.
- Vercel hosts this website, which uses no cookies and no analytics.
Some of these services store data outside Australia.
Deleting your data
In the app, tap your name, then Delete account. Your account, name, statuses, crew spot, friendships, notification token and alert history are deleted immediately and can't be recovered. If you were the last person in a crew, the crew is deleted too.
Removing the app from your phone doesn't delete your account, so use Delete account first. If you've already removed the app, email us and we'll delete it for you. Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically.
Children
WhoFree isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For big changes, we'll tell you in the app too.
